Kota bharu: A man suspected of assaulting his father, who subsequently died from head injuries sustained during an incident at a house in Kampung Masjid Baung Bayam, Kota Bharu, has been confirmed to have schizophrenia. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat reported that the incident occurred when the 83-year-old victim reprimanded the 41-year-old suspect while he was relieving himself.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, believed to have been startled, turned around and punched the victim, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on the cement floor, leading to severe injuries. The incident was reportedly witnessed by the suspect's younger brother, who was present at the house at the time.
After the incident, the victim reprimanded the suspect again, who appeared confused before going upstairs to sleep. Mohd Yusoff stated that the suspect has been remanded to assist in investigations, with further psychiatric assessment to be conducted by specialists. Police confirmed that the victim later succumbed to his injuries from the 11.30 am incident.
In another development, Mohd Yusoff mentioned that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), in cooperation with Thai police, traced a Toyota Fortuner sports utility vehicle belonging to the Kelantan Social Welfare Department (JKM) that was stolen and taken into Thailand. The vehicle remains in Thailand for investigations and forensic tests, including fingerprint analysis.
PDRM has submitted an official request for the vehicle's return once the forensic process is completed. On April 12, a group of four to five suspects reportedly broke into the JKM Kelewek office in Tanah Merah, stole two vehicles, and tied the hands of a security guard, as captured by closed-circuit television footage.
