Azeez Rahim To Be Charged At KL Sessions Court Tomorrow

Kuala lumpur: Former Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009. A check of the court system showed that Abdul Azeez, a former Baling MP, is scheduled to be charged before Judge Azura Alwi at 9 am.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the former TH chairman and former Treasury secretary-general were each remanded for seven days, until September 2, to assist investigations following disclosures related to the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the institution. Both individuals are being investigated under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009.

The RCI report on TH, published on the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) official portal on July 29, recommended a forensic audit to examine past investment decision-making that led to a significant decline in the institution's asset value. The RCI report, which examined TH's management and operations between 2014 and 2020, also identified investments requiring a forensic audit.

The RCI report further found suspicious transactions and concealed information. The investigation drew on findings by PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst and Young, and Roland Berger, but did not cover the restructuring and recovery plans being implemented at the time.
