Malaysian Border Control to Access KLIA MAHB Control Room

Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) will soon have access to the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) CCTV control room at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to bolster security measures at the country's entry points.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that an agreement on the mechanism has been reached between AKPS and MAHB, although it is still in the administrative phase of implementation. He emphasized that while MAHB is responsible for comprehensive control at the airport, which includes managing over 5,000 CCTV cameras across KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, their primary focus is on passenger interests, and security is not yet fully under their direct control.

Saifuddin Nasution also highlighted plans to enhance security by installing additional CCTVs in areas identified as "blind spots." This initiative comes in response to questions regarding the role of the National Immigration Command Centre (NICC) in providing security and intelligence information to counter threats at the airport.

He further addressed the recent investigation concerning a viral video involving AKPS Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, which included leaked internal KLIA CCTV footage. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is preparing to submit a preliminary report to the Attorney General's Chambers to assess whether the investigation is complete or requires further action. The investigation is focusing on how the footage was widely disseminated and whether the leak originated from MAHB's control or involved secondary recordings.
