Nagoya:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Malaysian athletes on their success at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan, where they secured three additional gold medals. This achievement was celebrated as a reflection of the athletes' exceptional skill and dedication.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, these victories increase Malaysia's total gold medal count to nine, equaling the country's best-ever performance at the Asian Games, previously achieved at the 2010 Guangzhou edition.
The gold medals were won by Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang in the men's keirin cycling event at the Izu Velodrome. Additionally, Malaysia triumphed in both the women's and men's team squash events at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena. The women's team, consisting of Aifa Azman, S. Sivasangari, Aira Azman, and Rachel Arnold, defeated Hong Kong 2-1. The men's team, featuring Ng Eain Yow, Sanjay Jeeva, C. Ameeshenraj, and Mohammad Syafiq Kamal, overcame Pakistan 2-0.
Anwar encouraged Malaysians to continue supporting the national athletes, who are set to compete in more finals. The upcoming events include the men's padel team of Christian Didier Chin and Aidan Yunus, as well as the men's hockey squad, both vying for gold medals.
