Anwar Encourages Harimau Malaya to Secure Third Place in FIFA ASEAN Cup

Jakarta:Kuala Lumpur Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Harimau Malaya squad to continue their strong performance in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 third-place playoff scheduled for Monday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister, in a Facebook post, expressed pride in the national team's fighting spirit and determination, which has been a source of pride for Malaysians despite their failure to reach the final.

Anwar congratulated Harimau Malaya on their remarkable 6-0 victory over Singapore, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their momentum and striving for victory in the upcoming playoff to bring pride to Malaysia.

In their final Group A Division 1 match at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, Malaysia's win against Singapore was not sufficient to secure a place in the final. Malaysia and Indonesia both had seven points and a goal difference of plus nine, but Indonesia advanced to the final by scoring more goals overall.

Indonesia will face Thailand in the final after defeating Bangladesh 9-2 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta. Malaysia is set to play against the Group B runners-up, likely Vietnam, in the third-place playoff, with both matches to be held at GBK on Monday.
