BEIJING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s working visit to China has generated potential exports worth RM3.2 billion, according to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz. He announced this achievement following a meeting with 24 companies from sectors such as semiconductor, aerospace, automotive, and medical devices, which participated in a roundtable session organized in conjunction with the visit.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the roundtable also saw participation from companies in the trade sector, including those involved in chemical products and agricultural produce. Tengku Zafrul disclosed this information at a press conference concluding the Prime Minister’s visit to China. He further mentioned that Malaysia has secured investments from China, with the exact figures to be announced soon. He noted that many projects are in their final stages, while some are still under discussion, indicating a positive outlook for growth this year.
Earlier, Anwar, who also s
erves as Finance Minister, engaged in a business meeting with China International Capital Corp (CICC), a state-owned multinational investment management and financial services company. Anwar’s four-day working visit to China, which commenced on November 4, marked his third such trip as Prime Minister. His previous visits occurred in March and September of 2023.
Accompanying Anwar on this visit were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Tengku Zafrul, and Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong. China has been Malaysia’s leading trading partner for 15 consecutive years since 2009. In 2023, the total trade with China was valued at RM450.84 billion (US$98.80 billion), accounting for 17.1 percent of Malaysia’s global trade. As of September 2024, the total recorded trade stood at RM355.15 billion (US$76.72 billion). In the first half of this year, Malaysia implemented 15 manufacturing projects with investments amounting to RM1.2 billion (US$252.5 million).
