Haze: Cloud Seeding Needs Suitable Clouds – Uggah

Kuching: Cloud seeding operations to tackle the haze will depend on favourable weather conditions, particularly the presence of suitable clouds, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman mentioned that discussions had been held with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), which was ready to conduct the cloud seeding operation whenever weather conditions permit. Uggah emphasized the necessity of suitable clouds for the process to be effective, noting that without them, the salt seeding agent would be ineffective.

Uggah expressed hope that weather conditions would improve soon, allowing the cloud seeding operation to be carried out and help tackle the haze. He stated that coordination with NADMA would continue to ensure all preparations for the operation are at an optimal level. He also noted that water levels at several dams and reservoirs in Sarawak were at concerning levels due to the hot weather.

Serian recorded a very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 227 as of 2 pm, while nine other areas in the state recorded unhealthy readings.
