Malaysia Prepares to Join UN Peacekeeping Mission in Gaza

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia is ready to join a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Gaza alongside like-minded countries, including members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), announced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He shared this development following a bilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres during the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s strong support for the Palestinian cause and acknowledged the UN’s consistent stance, as well as the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) decision, which declared Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid into Gaza as a violation of international law. Anwar’s statement emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to global peace efforts and its intention to enhance cooperation with the UN under the ASEAN-UN framework.

The meeting also covered topics such as Malaysia’s support for the UN reform agenda, specifically the Pact for the Future and the UN80 Initiative. Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s dedication to advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and aligning it with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, through the Complementarities Initiative 2.0.

During the 20-minute discussion, Anwar and Guterres addressed Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair in facilitating peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia and advancing dialogue efforts in Myanmar. They also discussed strengthening the global climate agenda, including Malaysia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0 submission ahead of COP30 in Brazil.

Anwar concluded by affirming Malaysia’s ongoing collaboration with the United Nations to promote global peace, justice, and sustainable development. Guterres arrived in Malaysia to participate in the 47th ASEAN Summit, held under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, with a theme of ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability.’
