Beijing:Malaysia and China are set to enhance their strategic cooperation in the transport sector through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement was formalized following a meeting between Malaysia's Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, and his Chinese counterpart, Liu Wei, during Loke's official visit to Beijing.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MoU establishes a formal framework for collaboration in various transport sectors, including land, rail, maritime, and air transport, as well as logistics. Key areas of focus include the exchange of technical expertise, capacity building, the utilization of artificial intelligence technology, green transport, and the development of low-carbon infrastructure.

During the meeting, both sides shared their views on expanding strategic cooperation to enhance the connectivity, efficiency, and sustainability of their transport systems. The cooperation is expected to boost Malaysia's policymaking capacity, improve supply chain efficiency, attract Chinese technology investments, and strengthen Malaysia's role as a regional transport hub for ASEAN.

Additionally, Loke witnessed the signing of another MoU on Civil Aviation Safety Cooperation between the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). This agreement, signed by CAAM's CEO, Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud, and CAAC's deputy administrator, Hu Zhenjiang, covers the approval of qualifications, certification, and oversight of aviation organizations, as well as licensing and oversight of flight operations. It aims to enhance Malaysia's civil aviation safety standards and facilitate the movement of aeronautical products and services between the two countries.

Loke also met with Song Xiude, the administrator of the National Railway Administration of China, to discuss the development and regulation of the rail sector, operational safety, capacity building, and the use of technology in rail systems. This visit underscores the close relations between Malaysia and China and their commitment to translating these relations into practical and beneficial transport cooperation.
