Malaysia Aims for Gold at WorldSkills 2028 with Expanded Skill Participation

Kuala Lumpur:Malaysia is setting its sights on winning its first gold medal at the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) 2028 in Aichi, Japan. This goal is supported by two years of early preparation and an expansion of the national team's participation to at least 32 out of the 64 contested skill areas.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan, who also leads the Malaysian Contingent to WSC Shanghai 2026, emphasized the need for immediate and thorough preparations. This includes enhancing collaboration across the 12 ministries involved in Malaysia's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem.

Dr Ahmad Maslan described the WSC as the "Olympics" for skills, highlighting the importance of the gold medal as a symbol of Malaysia's capability to elevate its TVET standards internationally. He noted the narrow point gap between national participants and international podium winners, indicating the potential of local trainees to achieve gold.

Malaysia's performance at the WSC Shanghai 2026 was its best in history, with the country securing 14 medals, including one bronze and 13 Medals for Excellence, and achieving a top 10 ranking in 11 out of 21 fields globally.
