Melaka: The Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM) is providing RM3.15 million in early schooling assistance to 9,000 students from asnaf, hardcore poor, and poor families in the state for the upcoming 2026 session. State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Exco Datuk Rahmad Mariman shared that each student has received RM350 in vouchers. These vouchers can be redeemed at designated shops within a week for purchasing school uniforms and supplies.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the early schooling aid has reached those in need, with Hang Tuah Jaya being the final parliamentary constituency to benefit from this assistance. The initiative supports 9,000 primary and secondary school students. This aid is part of MAIM's ongoing efforts to alleviate the financial challenges faced by families in need, ensuring they can adequately prepare for the school year.
The distribution of the aid was announced after the Melaka Berselawat programme, which took place in conjunction with the 2026 New Year celebration. The event was attended by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, and 5,000 spectators.
In related news, Rahmad mentioned that approximately 3,000 religious programmes were conducted in Melaka this year. These initiatives aim to further Islamic development at various levels throughout the state.
