Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is set to issue asset declaration notices to former Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan, his wife, and their three children, requiring them to declare their assets within a month.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MACC's chief commissioner, Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, announced that the notices, under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009, will be delivered on Monday to Saravanan, his wife, and two of their children. A third child, currently abroad, will receive the notice in November. The family has been informed and will attend the MACC headquarters for the notice delivery, with a 30-day period given for the asset declaration. Extensions may be granted upon request if the initial period is insufficient.
Saravanan has previously faced charges in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court for allegedly receiving nearly RM1.09 million in bribes related to the approval of 1,000 foreign worker quotas for a company, an incident that occurred four years ago.
In a separate matter, Abd Halim mentioned that the MACC has not yet received the asset declaration from the former chairman of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, and his family. Notices were served to Abdul Azeez and his family on September 15 under Section 49 of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001, and the MACC is awaiting their response within the stipulated month.
