Kuala lumpur: The LRT3 Shah Alam Line will offer free rides for one month starting tomorrow (Monday) until July 31, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister announced that free travel will also apply to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad feeder bus services along the Shah Alam Line.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the decision to offer free rides from June 29 to July 31 during the LRT3 Shah Alam Line launch ceremony at the Johan Setia LRT Depot. He explained that the chosen route experiences significant congestion, imposing a heavy burden on commuters.
Earlier, the Prime Minister took a ride on the LRT3 train from Seri Andalas station to Johan Setia station, covering the journey in approximately 15 minutes, before officiating at the launch event. The ceremony was also attended by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The event featured key figures from Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, including Group chairman Tan Sri Mohd Nasir Ahmad and president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan. The Shah Alam Line project, which required an investment of RM16.63 billion, is part of the government's strategy to enhance public transport infrastructure in the country.
Previously, Prasarana announced that the Shah Alam Line would be supplemented by 40 feeder buses serving 323 stops across 13 routes, with fares set at RM1 from 6 am to 11.30 pm. Additionally, Rapid On-Demand services are available, featuring 44 vans across 20 zones at a charge of RM2, operating within the same hours.
The stations also provide facilities for persons with disabilities (OKU), including ramps for wheelchair users, OKU-friendly toilets, and designated seating for OKU passengers in each carriage.
