Kota kinabalu: Sabah Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB) has successfully constructed 29,443 units of Low Cost Public Housing (PAKR) across the state during its nearly six decades of operation, as announced by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He highlighted that this achievement underscores the agency's strategic role in advancing the state's housing agenda.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, LPPB not only focuses on low-cost public housing but also contributes significantly to Affordable Housing (RMM) and commercial projects. These efforts assist the state government in bridging the socio-economic gap between urban and rural communities in an organized manner. Chief Minister Hajiji Noor made these remarks during LPPB's 59th Anniversary Dinner.
Hajiji emphasized the alignment of LPPB's housing projects with the state government's vision of inclusive, balanced, and high-impact development for Sabah's residents. The state government recognizes LPPB's critical role and contributions in the housing and urban development sector, reflecting its maturity and relevance, which has been maintained over 59 years.
In line with the Sabah Budget 2026, which focuses on development for the people's well-being, the state government, through the Sabah Ministry of Local Government and Housing, continues to prioritize public housing, including low-cost and affordable units. Key initiatives include the development of Low Cost Public Housing in areas such as Sukau, Melalap, Beluran, and Pitas.
The focus also extends to current Affordable Housing (RMM) projects, with plans for 2,358 units in strategic locations like Sandakan, Papar, and Kota Kinabalu districts. Beyond housing, LPPB has a mandate to plan and develop new towns to boost local economic growth and strengthen rural development. Nine new towns are slated for development in areas including Tongod, Paginatan, Merotai, and others.
This year, the state government plans to increase the SMJ Rumah Mesra quotas from 40 to 50 units per state constituency. The additional units are designated for married individuals under 40 who do not own a home, aiming to assist the younger generation in acquiring housing. This initiative is crucial to addressing the needs of the people, especially in rural regions, and improving living standards across Sabah. Each project by LPPB aims to bring hope and a better future to the communities it serves.
