Bagan Ajam: Police have clarified that the sounds of explosions and accompanying tremors experienced in Bagan Ajam this morning were the result of an air drill carried out by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) in the vicinity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman reported that his department was alerted to the situation at 11.46 am. Upon investigation, they confirmed with the RMAF Butterworth that the activity was part of a scheduled exercise.
The RMAF communicated that the drill involved a ‘force down’ bombing exercise, featuring aircraft such as the SU-30 MKM, F/A-18D Hornet, and C130H. This operation included an air-to-ground manoeuvre simulating the bombing of enemy areas within the RMAF Butterworth region.
ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman has advised the public to stay calm and refrain from making speculative assumptions about the occurrence, emphasizing that it was a standard military exercise.
