Kuala lumpur: Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari hopes the Lee Chong Wei Cup badminton tournament can be further strengthened and expanded in the future, involving more players and competitions at more levels.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mohammed Taufiq shared his thoughts on his official Facebook page, highlighting the significance of the tournament in developing sports talent at the grassroots level. He praised Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei, the sponsors, and everyone involved in organizing a high-quality tournament.

Dr Mohammed Taufiq emphasized the necessity of more competitive tournaments to provide young players the space and opportunity to compete, test their abilities, and gain experience in a real competitive environment. He also stressed the importance of creating a conducive platform for developing the character and identity of young athletes from an early stage.

In his remarks, Dr Mohammed Taufiq reiterated that sports are not solely about winning or losing. The emphasis should be on the experiences, confidence, and mentality-building opportunities that sports provide for young individuals.

He assured that the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) would continue to prioritize grassroots development programs to ensure a sustainable pipeline of future national talent. The minister expressed a vision of building a more competitive and inclusive sporting ecosystem capable of producing more champions for Malaysia.

The inaugural Lee Chong Wei Cup, which commenced on August 29 and concluded recently, offered a total prize money of RM104,000.
