Sukma: The Sabah Para SUKMA contingent continued to dominate the para-athletics competition at the Para Malaysia Games (Para SUKMA) Selangor 2026, collecting 14 gold medals at the UiTM Shah Alam Stadium here today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, among the gold medal contributors were Eljoe Gotuoh in the men's T20 (intellectual impairment) triple jump with a leap of 13.95 meters (m), Hazmi Bistani in the men's F12 (physical impairment) javelin throw with a distance of 30.24m, and Connie Zeno in the women's F40 (physical impairment) shot put with 4.18m. Paijol Benhar also contributed a gold in the men's T46/T47 (physical impairment) long jump with a leap of 5.90m, while Doriah Poulus dominated the women's F44/F64 shot put with a distance of 8.92m.

Sabah also won the women's and men's T20 400-meter (m) events through Nurul Sahada Hawani Abdullah with a time of one minute and 2.54 seconds (s) and Renoddry Remey (49.48s). At the same time, Muhammad Hafiq Hizwan from Melaka set a national record in the men's T46 (physical impairment) 400m after clocking 54.07s to win gold.

The para-athletics events continued with preventive measures and monitoring following the haze situation, including shortening each competition session to a maximum of two hours.

Meanwhile, at Selangor Aquatics, young athlete from the host state Alysha Aryana Mohd Khairul Azli stole the spotlight by breaking a national record during her debut appearance at the games. The 12-year-old swimmer won the women's S14 (intellectual impairment) 100m freestyle event with a time of 1:04.84s, thereby breaking her own national record of 1:07.34s set at the MSNM Para Circuit Series 2/2026 Championship.

At the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC), Sarawak para powerlifter Bibiana Ahmad erased her own national record of 85 kilograms (kg) after lifting a personal best of 86kg to win gold in the women's under-61kg lightweight category. The success was all the more meaningful as the 38-year-old Sarawakian powerlifter had barely touched food for two days to cut weight before the competition.

As of 10 pm tonight, Sabah leads the medal standings with 26 gold, 15 silver, and 15 bronze medals, followed by Selangor in second (19-14-16) and Sarawak in third with 15 gold, 12 silver, and 16 bronze medals.
