KWSTB Tourist Boat Service Aims for RM20,000 Monthly Income

Kuala Terengganu:The tourist boat service operated by Koperasi Warisan Seberang Takir Bhd (KWSTB) under the 'Desa Lestari' programme is anticipated to generate a monthly income of up to RM20,000.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, KWSTB chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman stated that the initiative would benefit the cooperative's 64 members, primarily fishermen, by creating job opportunities and generating economic benefits for the local community. The project commenced in 2024 with a RM1 million grant from the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW).

Ahmad Razif mentioned the successful launch of two tourist boats at Pulau Warisan, increasing the fleet to four boats. This expansion aims to support the fishing families during the monsoon season when fishing is not possible. Additionally, the cooperative plans to supply groceries and essential items to assist the members.

The boat service operates daily from 9 am to 8 pm, with each vessel accommodating 24 passengers, covering routes along the Terengganu River to Pulau Kapas in Marang, and planning to extend to Pulau Redang, Pulau Bidong, and Pulau Lang Tengah early next year. Initial operations during a 10-day holiday period generated RM50,000 in revenue, indicating an encouraging response.

Ahmad Razif also noted that the cooperative had received a RM70,000 grant from the Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission (SKM) to establish a café on Pulau Warisan, which is expected to complement tourism facilities and enhance local economic activities.
