Melaka:Resolving long-standing local issues and unlocking the tourism and economic potential of her constituency are among the priorities of Barisan Nasional (BN) incumbent for the Rim seat, Datuk Khaidirah Abu Zahar, if re-elected in the 16th Melaka state election.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Khaidirah, known as Dira, addressed several longstanding complaints from residents during her five-year tenure, particularly concerning drainage systems and flash floods. She expressed satisfaction with the improvements, stating that she can now rest easy even during heavy rain.
Khaidirah has focused on enhancing cooperation with local authorities and government agencies to ensure regular tree pruning and community clean-up activities for residents' safety. Welfare initiatives have also been aimed at repairing dilapidated homes and providing funds for urgent repairs to public facilities.
In her vision for Rim's economic development, Khaidirah seeks to promote local products, enhance residents' skills, and boost existing tourism attractions. She emphasized the potential of Tasik Chinchin, scenic rivers, local food products, batik enterprises, and ecotourism destinations, suggesting the development of attractive tourism packages. She also highlighted the potential for adventure sports trails and homestay programs to attract more tourists.
Khaidirah, who previously served as the State Deputy Investment, Industry and TVET Development Committee chairman, is the daughter of the late former Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Abu Zahar Ithnin. Before her political career, she was active in the entertainment industry.
Facing a straight fight against Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Esma Eazreen Husin, Khaidirah aims to maintain a respectful election campaign, free from insults and personal attacks, including on social media. The election polling is scheduled for November 14, with early voting on November 10.
