Ayer keroh: The Plantation and Commodities Ministry (KPK) is set to enhance the integration of digital technology, automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and low-carbon solutions within the palm oil milling sector to improve productivity and lessen dependence on manual labor.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Secretary-General (Plantation and Commodities) Datuk Razali Mohamad announced that this initiative will be implemented in collaboration with the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), regulatory agencies, and industry associations such as the Southern Peninsula Palm Oil Millers Association (SPPOMA). The aim is to not only boost operational efficiency but also adhere to stringent sustainability requirements, environmental protection, occupational safety, traceability, and compliance with international market standards, including the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
Razali emphasized the importance of leveraging the technical expertise of industry players in shaping policies and enhancing the regulatory framework to ensure practicality and effectiveness. He delivered these remarks while representing Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad at SPPOMA's 42nd anniversary dinner in Ayer Keroh.
The ministry is also encouraging SPPOMA to address industry issues and proposals through its annual dialogue sessions. This platform allows the ministry to explore industry concerns and, if necessary, bring them to the attention of other ministries, including the Finance Ministry, during the Budget preparation process.
Razali acknowledged the industry's advancements in methane capture, biogas power generation, BioCNG production, oil recovery, process automation, and the creation of value-added products from palm oil biomass. He highlighted the potential of these innovations to enhance the circular economy, reduce carbon emissions, and support national energy security.
The government remains committed to aligning the development of the palm oil milling sector with the national sustainability agenda while maintaining operational realities and the industry's competitive edge.
