Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has expanded the Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar to 116 locations nationwide this year. Its Deputy Minister, Senator Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, stated that this initiative continues the government's efforts to help ease the cost of living during the holy month by providing affordable food options.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the bazaars offer food and beverages priced at RM5 and below, involving approximately 3,000 traders. Senator Fuziah mentioned the growth of the initiative, highlighting its expansion from 41 locations in 2023 to 116 locations this year. This announcement was made at a press conference following the launch of the 2026 National-Level Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar.
Senator Fuziah also encouraged traders to broaden the range of food items across various categories to ensure visitors have access to affordable options. Meanwhile, she noted that 69,040.7 kg of surplus food worth RM833,722 were successfully recovered at last year's Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar through the MySaveFood initiative, now rebranded as the Ihsan Food Bank (i-FB).
The effort also prevented the release of more than 129,020 kg of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The initiative, which began in 2023, aims to rescue surplus food at Ramadan bazaars and distribute it to those in need through collaboration with local authorities, volunteer organizations, and local communities.
