Kelantan Government Allocates RM11 Million for Water Treatment Plant Upgrade

Kota Bharu:The Kelantan government has allocated RM11 million to upgrade the Merbau Chondong Water Treatment Plant (LRA). The initiative aims to increase the plant's production capacity from 45 million litres to 70 million litres per day, with completion expected by January next year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the capacity expansion is deemed necessary to meet the rising demand for water, particularly in the Pasir Puteh area. However, previous increases in water output from the plant have led to issues with turbidity due to high levels of iron and magnesium in the raw water source.

State Public Works, Infrastructure, Water and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Dr Izani Husin addressed these concerns, stating that the RM11 million budget allocation has been used to improve the treatment process at the Merbau Chondong LRA. He expressed optimism that water quality would improve once the project is completed.

Dr Izani was responding to a question from Nor Asilah Mohamed Zin (PAS-Limbongan) about the state government's efforts to tackle water supply and quality issues in Pasir Puteh during the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly sitting at the Kota Darulnaim Complex.
