Karak PUSPEN Rehabilitation Centre Completed at RM72.1 Million

Karak:The Karak Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN), valued at RM72.1 million, is now complete and can accommodate up to 500 clients, as announced by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the project involved significant construction and upgrades, including an administration block, treatment building, multipurpose hall, 10 dormitory blocks, a family visitation centre, a counseling block, an inmate affairs and vocational training building, and three workshop blocks. Security features include a control station, control tower, anti-climb fencing, and a centrally monitored CCTV system.

The project began on August 6, 2021, and concluded on July 27, 2026. Initially budgeted at RM68.8 million, costs increased due to constraints encountered during implementation. Nanta emphasized the importance of the project's completion and noted it is currently in the Defect Liability Period.

The project was built using conventional methods, with design by the Public Works Department (JKR) and execution by an appointed contractor. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail acknowledged the Ministry of Home Affairs' appreciation for JKR's role in overseeing and facilitating the project. The new facility is expected to enhance the National Anti-Drug Agency's (AADK) efforts in drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation.
