Thunderstorm and Heavy Rain Warning Issued Across Six Malaysian States

Labuan:The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds affecting the federal territory of Labuan, parts of Sarawak, and several areas across five other states, effective until 9 pm today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in Sarawak, the warning applies to regions including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong (Betong and Pusa), Sarikei (Julau), Sibu, Kapit, Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh), Miri (Bario, Telang Usan, Marudi, and Beluru), and Limbang.

In Sabah, the areas under warning include the Interior (Pensiangan, Kuala Penyu, and Membakut), West Coast (Kota Belud, Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, Putatan, and Papar), Tawau (Lahad Datu), and Sandakan (Kinabatangan and Tongod).

The weather conditions are also expected to affect Kedah (Kulim, Sik, and Baling); Kelantan (Gua Musang, Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Kota Bharu, Tanah Merah, and Jeli); Terengganu (Dungun); and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Maran, Pekan, and Rompin).

MetMalaysia explained that such warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, which are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
