Kuala Lumpur:Police have recorded statements from 25 individuals to assist in investigations into an incident involving Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated that police have also obtained closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and medical reports to ensure a thorough investigation. He advised the public to avoid speculation about the incident.
Mohd Khalid also commented on the role of Travel Control Officers (TCO) under the PDRM Special Branch, noting that their duties include intelligence gathering, conducting intelligence operations, and field security control. He expressed hope that their deployment would not be misunderstood as investigations continue.
Regarding whether standard operating procedures (SOPs) were breached during the incident, Mohd Khalid mentioned that this is still under investigation. He explained that under normal circumstances, no SOPs are breached, but operational requirements might necessitate specific actions within the TCO building or KLIA.
The police are tasked with a thorough examination of the matter before submitting an investigation paper to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC). Two officers involved remain on duty while the investigation is ongoing.
Media reports indicated that Mohd Shuhaily has left it to the government to decide on any action after a video of the incident went viral. He confirmed that the issue has been escalated to the highest levels of government and the Home Ministry and is prepared to accept any governmental decision.
