Mersing:Johor Port is on the verge of reaching its goal of handling 15 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) this year, with aspirations to enter the world's top 10 container ports by 2026.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Johor Port Authority (JPA) chairman, Dr. Rosnan Fathlal, stated that this target aligns with the Ministry of Transport's objective to place two Malaysian ports among the top 10 globally. Dr. Rosnan mentioned that Johor Port is anticipated to rank 11th this year, based on combined TEU handling at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) and Pasir Gudang Port. He shared these insights during the launch ceremony for an artificial reef anchor at the Cargo Jetty.
The launch was officiated by Mersing District Officer Jamil Hasni Abdullah. Dr. Rosnan highlighted that the artificial reef initiative follows JPA's initial reef anchor, established at Pulau Tinggi on October 30, 2025. The new 'Big Trophy' artificial reef anchor, measuring six meters in length, three meters in width and height, and weighing over five tonnes, is constructed from hollow steel and concrete. It will be submerged in the waters of Pulau Sibu tomorrow and features the JPA logo, supported by a RM50,000 allocation in partnership with Nautika Marine Engineering.
Additionally, Dr. Rosnan announced JPA's plans to collaborate with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) next year. This partnership will focus on researching turtle conservation, monitoring the current artificial reef, and evaluating its impact on the populations of species in Johor waters.
