Johor Bars Investments Involving E-Waste Imports

Johor Bahru: The Johor state government will not allow any investment which involves the importation of electrical and electronic waste (e-waste) into the state. Johor state investment and consumer affairs committee chairman Lee Ting Han stated this is in line with federal government policy.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Lee emphasized that there is already a policy at the federal government level related to e-waste investments. He affirmed that Johor adheres to this policy by prohibiting e-waste imports into the state. To enforce this, the state collaborates with local authorities to continuously monitor and enforce regulations, taking action against any company-especially in industrial areas-that processes e-waste without approval.

Lee’s remarks came during a press conference after the Salam Ramadan 2025 Rahmah Sale Programme at Tapak Pasir Khamis, Kampung Sungai Tiram. He was responding to inquiries about whether e-waste-related investments would be a focus area for the state government amid developments in the industrial sector.

He warned that strict actions, including seizures, fines, and court prosecution, would be taken against any company processing e-waste without approval. Lee noted that no complaints have been received so far, but assured that the state government would act if any arise. Furthermore, he clarified that factories processing e-waste in Johor only handle domestic e-waste.

The event was also attended by Johor’s Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo.
