Johor Bahru:Passenger service for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is anticipated to start in February 2027, with all system tests and trial runs aimed for completion by December 31 this year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) announced that the timeline takes into account the expected duration of the remaining works, as well as the time needed for third-party safety certification and approvals from the authorities of both countries.
The RTS Link, a significant bilateral project between Malaysia and Singapore, will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore. Upon completion, the service will have a peak capacity to transport up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with the journey between the two stations expected to take about five minutes.
Co-located Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities will be established at both Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North stations, enabling commuters to clear immigration at their departure point.
RTSO indicated that the project is set to greatly enhance cross-border connectivity and facilitate daily travel between Johor Bahru and Singapore. The RTS Link is also expected to strengthen interpersonal connections and generate shared economic and social benefits for both countries.
