Kuala Lampur:Itron Inc, a provider of intelligent infrastructure for energy and water management, has announced the availability of its grid edge portfolio for utilities in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, including the Itron Riva S and Itron Riva T IEC electricity meters.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this launch introduces the first Itron Gen6 network platform devices in APAC, marking a significant milestone in expanding Grid Edge Intelligence in the area. John Marcolini, Itron's senior vice president of Networked Solutions, emphasized that the launch aids utilities in taking actionable steps with a modular architecture that maintains technology choice and value expansion over time.

The Itron Riva meters are designed to enhance visibility across the low-voltage network, addressing the impact of distributed energy resources (DERs) with advanced intelligence. They act as both grid sensors and DER control points, offering real-time visibility into grid conditions, which allows for proactive management of DERs, early identification of network faults, and optimized budget allocation.

These meters extend grid edge intelligence, starting with advanced metering and local grid awareness, and can evolve to distributed intelligence applications as needs grow. This evolution is aimed at improving grid reliability, resilience, and efficiency.

Beyond energy consumption data, the meters use high-frequency sensing and edge computing to detect voltage fluctuations, transformer loading issues, and other network conditions. Built on open DLMS/COSEM standards and meeting IEC requirements, the meters provide flexibility for integration with existing and future technologies.

Initially, the Itron Riva IEC electricity meter is available in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, with plans for further expansion in the APAC region, supporting utilities in modernizing grid operations amidst increasing network complexity.
