Home Ministry Justifies SOSMA Application in GISBH Investigation.

KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail defended the use of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 or SOSMA in the investigation involving GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the minister stated that the police investigation found all the necessary criteria under Section 130V of the Penal Code to classify GISBH’s activities as those of an organised crime group. He outlined that the group involved more than two individuals, operated with a singular objective-specifically, the exploitation of children-and included an element of material gain.

Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that based on the police assessment, the investigation corresponded with Section 130V of the Penal Code. This allowed the authorities to interpret the activities as organised crime, justifying the invocation of SOSMA, which resulted in charges against 22 individuals. The minister made these remarks while closing the policy-level debate of the Supply Bill (Budget 2025) for his m
inistry in the Dewan Rakyat.

In a related context, Saifuddin Nasution also addressed the investigations into 3R issues-royalty, religion, and race-handled by Bukit Aman since March 2023. A total of 182 investigation papers have been opened, with 138 cases resolved and 44 still under investigation. These cases involve insulting remarks against the royal institution or religion and include individuals from various racial backgrounds such as Malays, Chinese, and Indians.

The minister reiterated that the use of provisions under the Sedition Act 1948 and other laws is aimed at addressing sensitive issues and maintaining harmony between different races and religions in the country.
