Kuala lumpur: The Home Ministry (KDN) aims to complete the comprehensive data collection under the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) programme by the end of this year, announced Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The DPP programme, managed by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), seeks to provide detailed data on refugees for various administrative purposes.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the DPP programme is a pivotal project led by JIM to address refugee issues more systematically. This initiative follows the National Security Council Directive No. 23 (Revised 2023), aiming to generate accurate, comprehensive, and verifiable biometric and identity information for individuals classified as refugees. Saifuddin Nasution highlighted the anticipated credibility and detail of the data to be collected under this programme during his speech at the 2026 Immigration Day celebration.
The event, themed 'Melakar Wajah Baharu Imigresen' (Shaping a New Face of Immigration), witnessed attendance from significant figures, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Public Service Director-General Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, and Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban.
Saifuddin Nasution also remarked on Malaysia's passport, which ranks as the world's third most powerful. He noted that new passport applications are processed within one hour, marking the fastest passport issuance globally. The newly launched international passport version boasts 94 security features, enhancing its security significantly.
Furthermore, he praised JIM's role in facilitating government initiatives that have reinforced Malaysia's global standing, including its top ranking in Medical Tourism 2025. The establishment of two Expatriate Satellite Centres at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has streamlined processes for investors and skilled workers in key sectors, such as semiconductors, reflecting JIM's evolving and respected status.
