Haj Pilgrims Urged To Prioritise Health As Makkah Temperatures Rise

Makkah: Malaysian haj pilgrims have been urged not to neglect their health, especially after performing the umrah, to ensure they remain fit ahead of the peak of the fifth pillar of Islam. Head of the Malaysian Haj Delegation Hisham Harun emphasized the importance of managing health amid increasingly hot weather conditions in Makkah to avoid any complications.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hisham Harun advised pilgrims to rest adequately after their long journey from Malaysia and after performing the umrah. He stressed the necessity of sufficient rest to regain energy and the importance of hydration, taking prescribed medication, and overall health care in preparation for the haj.

Malaysia's Consul General in Jeddah, Tengku Mohd Dzaraif Raja Abdul Kadir, highlighted that temperatures could exceed 40 degrees Celsius, particularly during the peak of the wukuf in Arafah. Last year, extreme temperatures of up to 51.8 degrees Celsius were recorded in Makkah, serving as a reminder for this year's pilgrims to better prepare for the challenges posed by unpredictable hot weather.

Hisham Harun noted that the period before wukuf should be optimally used, given that the haj demands extraordinary physical and mental endurance. He expressed gratitude that the arrival process and movement arrangements of Malaysian haj pilgrims have proceeded smoothly without significant issues.

He also remarked on the importance of compliance with regulations, including the use of valid haj permits through systems established by the Saudi Arabian authorities, which has facilitated the smooth movement of pilgrims to Makkah. "Alhamdulillah, all processes have gone well, and we hope this situation will continue until all pilgrims have arrived," he stated.
