Govt Encouraged to Increase Allowances for PDK Centre Staff

Kuala lumpur: The allowance rates for supervisors and trainers at Community-Based Rehabilitation (PDK) centres need to be reviewed and increased to better reflect their responsibilities in managing, educating, and caring for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Special Officer to the Perak Menteri Besar for the Kampung Gajah state constituency, Khairul Azwan Harun, emphasized the importance of this adjustment, noting the high level of commitment required from these personnel.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Khairul Azwan stated that supervisors at PDK centres currently receive a monthly allowance of RM1,500, while trainers receive RM1,200. He highlighted that their duties necessitate a significant degree of patience and attention, particularly when guiding children with special needs. Khairul Azwan underscored the vital role of PDK personnel, who not only assist trainees in enhancing their skills and self-reliance but also act as a crucial support system for families, ensuring that these special children receive appropriate care and guidance.

He urged the government, particularly the Social Welfare Department (JKM), to consider increasing the allowance rates for PDK supervisors and trainers. He stressed that their responsibilities are substantial, and the current allowances should be revised to better compensate their work and dedication.

Furthermore, Khairul Azwan mentioned that he has requested an allocation from the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) to help upgrade PDK Cahaya Qaseh in Kampong Gajah, which is in a dilapidated state. The upgrades needed include repainting the building and improving the drainage system to prevent discomfort and safety risks during heavy rainfall.

He highlighted that the physical condition of the PDK centre requires attention to ensure that special children can engage in activities in a more comfortable, safe, and conducive environment. He expressed hope that his application would be considered, emphasizing that proper facilities are essential for delivering effective services to trainees and their families.

Earlier, Khairul Azwan visited the centre to observe the activities, facilities, and needs of the special children receiving services and guidance there.
