Government to Streamline Business Applications Online and Reduce Red Tape

Kuala Lumpur:The government is actively working on transitioning business applications to an online platform to save entrepreneurs from spending unnecessary time seeking status updates from officers.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh, emphasized the elimination of unnecessary procedures to ease the administrative burden on businesses. This initiative aims for greater time and cost efficiency while reducing potential for corruption.

Speaking at the Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) Installation and 34th Anniversary Night, Hannah Yeoh stated that if businesses are expected to adapt and improve, the government must also enhance its own delivery systems. She pledged to cut out corruption and unnecessary processes to help businesses save money and time.

Practical administrative changes have already been implemented, such as allowing eligible Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) business licenses to be renewed for up to three years. Businesses choosing a two-year renewal receive a five percent discount, while a three-year renewal offers a ten percent discount.

To support the entertainment and events sector in Kuala Lumpur, deposits for concerts and local shows have been significantly reduced by 70 percent.

Hannah Yeoh also encouraged physical retailers to adapt to changing consumer behaviors by transforming malls into community hubs with diverse food, culture, and entertainment offerings. She advised traditional businesses to employ younger talent to assist with digitalization, noting the active participation of both youth and senior citizens in e-wallets and online purchasing platforms.
