Government Finalizes RM17.15 Billion in Tax Refunds by September 30

Accra:The government has completed the process of refunding tax overpayments totaling RM17.15 billion, affecting 3.23 million taxpayer cases, as of September 30, 2026.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) reported that this sum includes RM6.38 billion refunded to 3.1 million individual taxpayers and RM8.95 billion returned to over 130,000 corporate taxpayers, which encompasses micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

To enhance the tax refund process, the Inland Revenue Board has introduced various strategies to ensure fair and orderly distribution of government refund allocations. These strategies consider the age of outstanding cases while prioritizing MSMEs and companies experiencing cash flow difficulties.

The government is committed to promptly settling outstanding refunds to improve tax administration efficiency and protect taxpayers' rights, aligning with the MADANI Government's fiscal reform agenda, the Ministry of Finance stated in a written reply published on the parliament website. The ministry's response addressed a query from Lim Guan Eng (Bagan-PH) concerning the timeline for settling tax refunds and the two percent compensation for corporate taxpayers for the 2025 assessment year, as well as the details of outstanding refunds by assessment year and the number of affected taxpayers.
