Kuala lumpur: The government is intensifying its focus on the housing, education, and welfare of Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel to ensure they can concentrate fully on defending the nation, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced today. He emphasized the government's commitment to the well-being of service members and their families as a critical responsibility, including the development of 1,300 Military Family Housing (RKAT) units at Kem Syed Sirajuddin in Gemas, alongside enhanced educational support for their children.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Ahmad Zahid underscored the importance of prioritizing the welfare of Armed Forces personnel, stating, "Concern for housing, education, and the welfare of all Armed Forces personnel must be prioritised by the government." His remarks came during the Southern Zone ATM Family Day Carnival, attended by the Army Chief Gen Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman at Kem Syed Sirajuddin.
Dr Ahmad Zahid further highlighted the government's efforts to improve educational facilities for military families, such as providing safer and more suitable transport for children traveling to school. He mentioned that when military families' welfare and their children's education are well-catered, Armed Forces members could perform their duties of defending the nation with greater peace of mind.
He acknowledged the invaluable sacrifices made by ATM personnel in defending the nation's sovereignty and maintaining Malaysia's peace and security. Last Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim affirmed the government's dedication to the welfare of military personnel, both serving and retired, as a priority in recognition of their crucial role in ensuring national stability and security.
Prime Minister Anwar announced an allocation of RM844 million in this year's housing services budget aimed at upgrading and developing Military Family Housing across the country. This allocation includes new housing projects and infrastructure enhancements at military camps, such as the construction of 1,300 new RKAT units at Kem Syed Sirajuddin in Gemas.
