Floods: Number Of Evacuees Drops In Several States, Rises In Perak And Selangor

Kuala lumpur: The number of flood evacuees in several states has declined in line with improving conditions, but figures in Perak and Selangor have risen as of 3 pm today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in TERENGGANU, the number of evacuees dropped to 8,345 people (2,490 families) compared with 9,584 people at midday. The Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal reported that Kuala Terengganu recorded the highest number of evacuees with 1,670 people, followed by Kemaman with 1,667, Marang with 1,536, Kuala Nerus with 1,335, Setiu with 1,039, Dungun with 711, and Hulu Terengganu with 356. In Besut, the last relief centre was closed after all evacuees returned home.

In PERAK, the number of flood victims increased again this afternoon to 6,440 people (2,006 families) seeking shelter at 45 relief centres, compared with 6,173 people (1,903 families) reported earlier. Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said the weather in 12 districts in the state is forecast to be fine at night, while several districts, such as Manjung, Perak Tengah, Muallim and Kinta, are expected to experience rain in the afternoon.
