MA63 Implementation at Crucial Stage: Saifuddin Urges Caution Against Harmful Remarks

Kuala lumpur: The MADANI Government is currently at a pivotal phase in implementing its commitments under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) through joint meetings chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as stated by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution. He emphasized that the process should remain undisturbed by statements or opinions that might create confusion or unease among the public.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin warned that any inflammatory remarks related to the MA63 could undermine the long-standing harmonious relationship between Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Government. He noted that inappropriate remarks could affect federal stability and erode public confidence in the ongoing MA63 resolution process.

Saifuddin highlighted the substantial progress already achieved, stressing that the government’s commitment should be evaluated based on the implementation of agreements. He remarked that the focus should be on outstanding issues and constraints that must be addressed. He shared these insights with reporters after attending the handover of the MADANI Adopted Village project to the Registry of Societies (ROS) at Kampung Sindang Baru.

Previously, there were media reports about former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim describing Sarawak and Sabah as burdens to the Federation and questioning the relevance of MA63. In a podcast, Zaid suggested that the agreement should be abolished and proposed that Sarawak and Sabah be granted independence from Malaysia.
