Terengganu: The federal government has approved an allocation of RM60 million for poverty eradication programmes in Terengganu this year, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He stated that the programme focuses on increasing people's income and improving housing in the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the implementation of this programme will be coordinated by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department. The announcement was made during the MADANI Gathering with Terengganu tahfiz students at Sekolah Menengah Imtiyaz Yayasan Terengganu. The event was attended by 1,500 students, teachers, and practitioners from pondok and tahfiz schools in the region. Notable attendees included Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
At the same event, Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, announced an additional allocation of RM1.8 million for infrastructure and facility repair works at 18 tahfiz schools in Terengganu this year. He urged tahfiz and pondok schools nationwide to embrace new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to keep up with current advancements.
Anwar emphasized the significance of mastering languages other than Arabic and Bahasa Melayu among pondok and tahfiz students to enhance their educational and professional opportunities.
