MOHE Monitors Food Prices at Public Universities Amid Rising Costs

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is closely monitoring food and beverage prices at cafeterias in public higher education institutions (IPTA) following concerns over rising costs. Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, addressed this issue during a recent meeting with representatives of student councils (MPP).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zambry highlighted that the monitoring process is ongoing at public universities, with vice-chancellors conducting observations to ensure prices remain manageable for students. For private universities, the ministry has recommended considering current economic conditions and avoiding price increases.

Dr Zambry mentioned that the government plans to introduce the Menu Kasih Siswa initiative to support underprivileged students in IPTAs. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on students by providing affordable meal options.

Meanwhile, the Celik Kewangan Belia MADANI Programme (Celik MADANI), spearheaded by Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB), continues to make strides in enhancing financial literacy among students. Last year, the program recorded participation from over 200,000 students across higher education institutions. The initiative targets reaching one million students by 2030, fostering a financially savvy and resilient generation of young investors.

Dr Zambry expressed confidence in achieving the ambitious target, citing the positive response and substantial participation numbers thus far.
