Kuala Lumpur:A unique family nasi daging recipe paired with an innovative instant noodle dish has earned Noor Shobahiyah Abu Bakar the top honor in the Professional Chef category at the Lotus's Chef Challenge 2026.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Noor Shobahiyah, 31, who hails from Kedah, impressed judges with her smoked beef in masak lemak gravy with a fusion twist. Her victory grants her the opportunity to represent Malaysia at the Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge (TUCC) 2027 in Bangkok. Despite a decade of culinary experience, she expressed nervousness about competing internationally for the first time.
Noor Shobahiyah sees this opportunity as both a significant personal achievement and a chance to showcase Malaysian cuisine globally. Meanwhile, Loi Kee Yeong, 20, emerged as the champion in the Young Chef category, viewing his win as a critical step in developing his culinary skills, especially as he prepares for Culinaire Malaysia next year.
The competition, themed 'From the Kitchen to the Stage,' concluded with 87 participants competing in two categories. It was organized by Lotus's Malaysia, the Professional Culinaire Association Malaysia, and TAEM Academy, and recognized by the World Association of Chefs' Societies. Winners received cash vouchers, with the top three professional chefs advancing to TUCC 2027 and young chefs moving on to Culinaire Malaysia 2027.
