Kuala Lumpur:Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has not yet paid the RM50 million fine imposed on him, as confirmed by the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar stated that there is no specific deadline set for the payment of the fine. He mentioned that Najib still needs to fulfill this requirement, and confirmed that the former prime minister would continue to serve his prison sentence until the fine is paid.
The conditional pardon granted to Najib, allowing him to remain under house arrest until August 23, 2028, was given by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. This pardon was contingent upon Najib paying the RM50 million fine. The decision was made during the 64th Meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya at Istana Negara.
Najib was sentenced by the Kuala Lumpur High Court in July 2020 to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million after being found guilty of misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd. The sentence was upheld by the Court of Appeal in December 2021 and the Federal Court in August 2022. However, in January 2024, the Pardons Board reduced his sentence to six years and the fine to RM50 million.
Further complicating his legal situation, in December of the previous year, Najib was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined RM11.4 billion for charges related to abuse of power and money laundering involving 1MDB funds. He appealed this decision in December 2025.
In March, a civil court ordered Najib to repay USD1.3 billion to SRC International for breaching fiduciary duties and misappropriating company funds. The enforcement of this order is on hold pending his appeal. Najib also faces additional lawsuits from SRC International, Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd, and a USD5.64 billion civil case from 1MDB and its subsidiaries, all of which are ongoing in the courts.
