Johor bahru: Those elected on party tickets should serve till the end of their term to respect the people's mandate, Pakatan Harapan (PH) deputy chairman Anthony Loke. The DAP secretary-general emphasized the importance of this principle, highlighting that the candidate's victory was achieved through the party they represented.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke addressed the issue during a press briefing following the PH convention at the Johor Persada International Convention Centre. The event was attended by notable figures, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other PH leaders. Loke's comments were made in response to the recent decisions by former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and former PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to resign from their party and vacate their parliamentary seats, effective tomorrow.
Loke pointed out that such actions might have legal implications and that the matter would need to be addressed by Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Johari Abdul. Rafizi, who represents Pandan, and Nik Nazmi, the MP for Setiawangsa, are expected to submit their resignation letters regarding their parliamentary seats to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker tomorrow. Additionally, they plan to hand their PKR resignation letters to PKR secretary-general Datuk Fuziah Salleh on Tuesday.
In light of their resignations, both MPs have announced their intention to join Parti Bersama Malaysia, taking over leadership from the party's founder and president, Tan Gim Theam. Parti Bersama Malaysia, established on December 2, 2016, is an active political entity in Penang.
