Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has commenced an investigation into the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on Tabung Haji (TH), deploying eight officers to the TH building this morning. MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman stated that this action follows a recommendation by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for enforcement agencies to take appropriate actions after the RCI report was made public on Wednesday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the investigation team has entered the Tabung Haji building to identify documentation related to the matters stated in the RCI as well as issues relevant to the MACC investigation. The team is also tracking down several individuals who will be called to record their statements, in addition to examining the relevant list according to the established procedure. When asked whether all TH leaders, including former top management, would be called, Abd Halim confirmed that anyone identified would be asked to give a statement.

The investigation is not confined to a specific period but will be guided by the findings and recommendations contained in the report. Abd Halim emphasized that any necessary documents related to the investigation would be collected and examined to compile a summary of the investigation results.

Yesterday, MACC announced in a statement that it had formed a special team to review and examine the RCI report on TH. The team, led by MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Mohd Hafaz Nazar, will scrutinize any legal issues involving corruption, embezzlement, forgery of documents, abuse of power, or money laundering in line with the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694) and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA) 2001 (Act 613) or related offences.

The RCI report on TH, uploaded on the official portal of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) on Wednesday, recommended a forensic audit to examine past investment decisions that led to a significant decline in asset value for TH. The report, which investigated TH's management and operations from 2014 to 2020, also highlighted problematic investments requiring a forensic audit and uncovered suspicious transactions and information concealment.
