Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the current generation to cherish the nation's freedom, peace, and prosperity by remembering the sacrifices made by members of the security forces in defending the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar commended the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) for presenting the pantomime "Darah Pahlawan Ulu Legong" (The Blood of the Ulu Legong Warriors) during the 2026 National Warriors' Day Parade at Dataran Pahlawan Negara today. He described the performance as compelling and moving, emphasizing it was more than just a drama but a reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation's heroes.
Anwar highlighted the importance of remembering and honoring these sacrifices, urging the current generation not to forget that the country's freedom, independence, peace, and prosperity were secured due to the service of the defense forces. The ceremony, attended by dignitaries including his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and several government officials, underscored the significance of the event.
The pantomime depicted the sacrifice of seven soldiers killed in an ambush by communist terrorists during an operation in Ulu Legong, Baling, Kedah, on October 29, 1981. Anwar stated that the performance served as a reminder to young Malaysians of the courage and sacrifices made by the armed forces to secure the nation's independence and security.
He extended his appreciation to the Chief of Defence Force for showcasing the performance, emphasizing the true meaning of independence and the sacrifices made to achieve it. The Prime Minister also met with Private Md Said Adam, a survivor of the Ulu Legong ambush, Lt. Col. Hamzah Othman, and the next of kin of the personnel involved, expressing his gratitude for their service.
This year's National Warriors' Day Parade, held under the theme 'Mengenang Jasa, Mengukuh Pertahanan' (Honouring Service, Strengthening Defence), was organized by the Malaysian Army. It paid tribute to members of the nation's security forces who served during the Emergency and Confrontation eras, highlighting the country's peace and stability achieved through immeasurable sacrifice.
