Dream Come True, Wan Kuzain All Smiles After Harimau Malaya Call-up

Kuala lumpur: After waiting almost seven years for the opportunity to represent Malaysia, midfielder Wan Kuzain Wan Ahmad Kamal admitted he has not been able to stop smiling since arriving at the Harimau Malaya training camp ahead of the ASEAN Cup 2026. The United States-based player described his maiden senior national team call-up as a dream come true and is eager to repay the faith placed in him by delivering strong performances in national colours. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sporting JAX player expressed his excitement before flying to Yangon for Malaysia's first ASEAN Cup 2026 game against Myanmar at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1. Despite missing key players, Wan Kuzain believes the current Harimau Malaya squad has a healthy blend of experienced and young players, providing a solid platform for competition in the regional tournament. Reflecting on his football upbringing in the United States, the 27-year-old hopes to bring a never-give-up mentality to the national team, v iewing every match as an opportunity regardless of the opponent. He recalled the disappointment of missing the 2019 SEA Games due to documentation issues, describing it as a challenging period in his career. However, he remains optimistic about making the most of his current opportunity. Wan Kuzain mentioned that he had previously received offers from Malaysian clubs but is content to continue his career in the United States for now. Nevertheless, he did not rule out the possibility of playing in the Malaysian league in the future if the right offer arises. Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan FC player Azri Ghani discussed the competition for the Harimau Malaya's first-choice goalkeeper spot with fellow custodians Rahadiazli Rahalim and Haziq Aiman Esa. He emphasized the importance of making the most of the opportunity for the team's benefit. Although uncertain about who will start against Myanmar, the 27-year-old is ready to give his best if selected, aiming to help the national team begin their campaign with a vic tory. Azri urged his teammates to perform collectively against Myanmar, noting that a strong team effort would help Tan Cheng Hoe's side secure all three points in their opening match. Besides Myanmar, Malaysia is in Group B with Laos, Thailand, and the Philippines. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals of the ASEAN Cup 2026, which runs until August 26.
