Kuala lumpur: Diversity in this country should not be seen as a challenge, but as a major national asset to be preserved and upheld, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang. He emphasized that each ethnic group contributes unique history, values, language, and traditions, which play a crucial role in building a dynamic and inclusive nation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron highlighted the pride in Malaysia's diversity, noting the presence of about 70,000 citizens from the Siamese ethnic group as part of the nation's diverse fabric. He pointed out that Malaysia's strength lies in its diversity, with more than 200 ethnic groups and sub-ethnic communities across the country. This diversity is celebrated and acknowledged as a foundation for national unity.
Aaron stated that every community, regardless of background, plays an important role in the nation's development across various sectors such as economic, social, educational, and cultural aspects. He noted that empowering one community leads to progress for the entire nation, as ethnic diversity fosters better understanding and respect among people.
He further explained that in the context of nation-building, a shared identity based on mutual respect, togetherness, and a commitment to peace and national progress serves as a core uniting factor for Malaysians, despite differences in culture, language, and beliefs. Aaron asserted that this shared identity binds Malaysians into a strong and united society.
On the occasion of Songkran, Aaron described the celebration as a symbol of joy, gratitude, and new beginnings, observed together with family and the community.
