Nagoya:Young sprinter Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee has secured his place in the men's 200-meter final at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, showing promise as he prepares to compete against some of Asia's top athletes.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Danish, aged 19, finished fourth in his semi-final heat with a time of 20.76 seconds at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. This performance allowed him to advance to the final through one of the two fastest remaining times.

The semi-final heat was won by Japanese runner Soshi Mizukubo, clocking in at 20.37 seconds. Wu Yen Ming Ke of Taiwan took second place with 20.71 seconds, while Yip King Wai from Hong Kong finished third with 20.74 seconds.

Danish expressed that participating in the Asian Games with the senior squad offers a significant experience and a chance to measure his skills against elite runners from the continent. He described the opportunity as both a positive experience and a major achievement.

In contrast, fellow national runner Muhammad Haziq Mohamad Akhir did not advance past the semi-finals, placing eighth in his heat with a time of 21.50 seconds. This heat featured men's 100m champion Puripol Boonson of Thailand, who set a new Asian Games record with a time of 20.10 seconds.

In other events, Mohamad Armin Zahryl Abd Latif did not progress past the first round in the 110m hurdles, finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 13.92 seconds. In the shot put, Jonah Chang finished seventh with a throw of 18.89 meters. The gold medal in the shot put was claimed by Mohamad Reza Tayebi of Iran with a new Asian record throw of 20.81 meters.
