Johor lama: Bridging development gaps and attracting high-impact investment to stimulate the local economy are key priorities for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Johor Lama state seat, Danish Hossman Abd Rahman. Campaigning under the slogan 'Wajah Baharu, Johor Lama' (A New Face, Johor Lama), Danish has pledged to create more job opportunities and reduce young people's reliance on employment in urban centres or abroad if given a mandate in the 16th Johor state election.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Danish emphasized the necessity of stronger coordination between the state and federal governments to ensure the smooth implementation of policies and development projects. He stressed the need for attention to areas like Felda settlements, where many young people migrate to Johor Bahru or Singapore for employment. Danish aims to bring investment to Johor Lama to allow young people from Felda communities to remain in their villages for work.
In addition to economic issues, Danish, 23, the youngest candidate in the state election, advocates for establishing an Immigration Department branch office in Kota Tinggi to facilitate administrative processes for residents. Currently, residents must travel to Johor Bahru, Kulai, or Mersing for immigration matters, which Danish aims to change.
Danish's campaign strategy involves traditional face-to-face engagement coupled with active social media use to connect with over 32,000 voters in the constituency. He expressed confidence in meeting people directly and listening to their concerns while maintaining a strong online presence. The response from voters in Johor Lama has been positive, according to Danish.
The Johor Lama state seat will witness a three-cornered contest between Danish, incumbent Norlizah Noh (Barisan Nasional), and Aisah Esa (Perikatan Nasional). Polling for the Johor state election is scheduled for July 11, with early voting on July 7.
