Terengganu Sets Nine-Gold Medal Target For 2026 Para SUKMA

Terengganu: Terengganu has set a target of 38 medals, including nine gold medals, for the 2026 Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor, from Sept 5 to 10. State Youth Development, Sports and Non-governmental Organisations (NGO) Committee chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim announced that the contingent, consisting of 104 members including athletes, coaches, managers, and escorts, will compete in 10 sports across Petaling Jaya and Klang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hishamuddin outlined the ambitious goals, stating that the aim for this Para SUKMA is to secure nine gold, 13 silver, and 16 bronze medals. The para athletes have undergone six months of rigorous training at centers identified by the Terengganu Sports Council. They were selected to represent the state based on their performance and potential. The sports identified with high gold medal prospects include boccia, powerlifting, athletics, and swimming, while archery, lawn bowling, badminton, and tenpin bowling are anticipated to yield silver and bronze medals.

Hishamuddin also emphasized that medal winners will receive incentives equivalent to those awarded to 2026 SUKMA winners. The rewards are set at RM3,500 for a gold medal, RM2,500 for a silver, and RM1,500 for a bronze. He expressed hope that the contingent would put forward a strong performance to secure as many medals as possible, aiming to bring honor to the state. "The incentive is not just monetary rewards, but a token of appreciation from the state government to the efforts, discipline, and fighting spirit of athletes, coaches, and other parties," he added.
